HANNA CITY — Demolishing an old barn on the Swords farm, workers began to hammer apart old cabinets inside.

Good thing they didn’t hit too hard or too long. Through a hole ripped into a cabinet, a bag inside revealed an alarming label:

“DYNAMITE.”

After a call to police, more than 100 sticks were counted, languishing for decades yet still volatile. With the help of a Peoria police robot, the explosives — plus blasting caps — were safely disposed of.

Marcia and George are stunned to have been unwittingly living next to a powder keg.
