1. The observatory has been active on the summit since the 1960's

Anyway, it is above 4,000 meters altitude, meaning that it is not hospitable to much of anything, but happens to be the best location for visual astronomy in the northern hemisphere, bar none.

There are no rational arguments against it being there. None whatsoever.
