3. I live near the Russian River

and while a tad bit too far and too high to be personally threatened by the water from storms (hills and trees are another matter!) it is interesting to watch what the various homeowners *on* the banks of the river are doing to their structures. I've been watching more than one large home being raised up on piers, or whatever they're called. I don't mean being built, but just raised. It's kinda fascinating.
