I am rereading, hopefully cover to cover, Prof. Crane Brinton's classic The Anatomy of Revolution, a book read in many history and political science classes since its publication in the 1930s. We saw the Jan 6 insurrection, and I've compared it many times on DU to the clearest and classic insurrection, November 1917, but we must recognize that as part and parcel of WWI and the Russian Revolution. So are we in the midst of a revolution now? Everything is in an uproar politically. Are we about to enter a Reign of Terror? What would that look like in the modern world? I'm only beginning to ponder such questions as I've only realized the full structure of the events in this post over the last few days. But we really must consider if something bigger is happening while our government basks in normalcy and hasn't a clue what is happening outside civilization.
