Since I started subbing I've met several band directors, Jr Hi & HS.
Most won't embarrass themselves or the kids.. They'll find more suitable material.
Those junior high band/orchestra teachers have the patience of Gandhi! I've heard a dozen of them and......they're not good. The kids who can actually play stick out like a panther in the snow!
I've heard a couple HS bands, though, that were really good! Big schools though, so they're picking all the better & best.
So, I agree that directors wouldn't do that to the kids, but don't agree on how good a grade school orchestra is likely to be. I think good ones are rare, as I'm 0-12 in that regard.
