2. Many years ago I knew of cases

where a belligerent neighbor moved barbed wire fencing from his side of a line of trees to the other side and then claimed it was the property line and therefore the trees were on his side. Also in the past it has not been unusual for people to move surveyor stakes to whatever they pleased. A great many of the old farms in the Midwest would have fences that had been in place for many decades but were not actually on the property line. Sometimes by several feet or more. Unless somebody pays for a certified survey at some point the fence lines just become more or less accepted as property lines.
