18. Early in the pandemic I adopted a 17 year old cat

from the local shelter. The vet there cautioned me, saying, "This cat might live two years, or it might live two months. Plus, she's on a special (read expensive) diet for an old cat." Not a problem. I'd had old cats before, had dealt with the special diet thing, and was good with it all.

Sadly, Fiona only lived with me two and a half weeks, but I am so glad I had her that short time. She was sweet and affectionate. I think her original owner was an older lady like me, which helped. And I'm so glad she didn't have to spend her last two weeks in the shelter.
