My CPA said he had at least 5 clients who have had their checks stolen from the mail and “washed,” meaning someone changes the name on the check and then cashes or deposits it.
Any envelope addressed to IRS or a State Dept of Revenue is targeted.
And online paying is easy and requires no account to be set up; simply pay by credit card (with a fee) or have it drafted from your bank account.
