It had a bit of a funkiness, combined with that 80s pop and a taste of theater as well.

Great song. Funnily enough, we farm folks always seemed to prefer the original version. I knew plenty of rednecks who would be singing gibberish in their attempt to sing along, but they never seemed to have the English version handy. (That one was what usually got played on the radio.)
