But last week, the feds picked up a convicted murderer that was released three days prior because the detainer request was ignored.

I get that states/localities aren't required to enforce federal immigration laws, nor should they be. But I don't get why they wouldn't, in very specific cases, honor the detainers for violent criminals.

It doesn't have to be all or nothing - ignore the detainers for non-violent, but for convicted violent criminals, let them be deported.
