In reply to the discussion: America's struggling wine industry is getting crushed by global tariffs and Canada's retaliation to them [View all]Littlered
(347 posts)24. According to this article
Exports are only 3-5 percent of the total market. We are (by far) a larger consumer than exporter. I realize this doesnt fit the narrative. Im just pointing out that wine exportation is a fledgling market. This isnt a big deal in the overall scheme of things. When one market closes, you look for another. As a small business owner that is what Ive dealt with for three decades now. Many times its been direct government intervention/regulation that has screwed us. Covid being the latest one that almost put us in the dodo category.

Poor Canada, forced to drink French, Italian, Chilean and New Zealand wines. Trump's an idiot.

Tariffs mean Americans will drink American wine and rest of the world will drink non-American wine

I'm not really a wine drinker and I use reds just in cooking. I prefer champagne or Prosecco instead

What a shame. We visited about 5 years ago. Darling little town. We also went to Deep Eddy Vodka
