and a capital in East Jerusalem, which, of course, is much less than what was offered in 1947.

If Saudi Arabia does recognize Israel, and if Macron is successful in forcing the hand of the other 27 UN nation states to do the same, the "river to the sea" contingent (one of whom sits in Congress) would be forestalled and the UN would have to rethink its "refugee in perpetuity as long as you're descended through the male line" special definition and disband UNRWA.

Would LA-born millionaire supermodel Gigi Hadid still qualify under UNRWA's tortured definition as a "Palestinian refugee"? Probably not, as there would be a Palestinian state to return to.

It goes without saying that President Macron most likely hopes that Palestine would become the Middle East's second democracy. Saudi Arabia and Qatar, however, might be more inclined to favor installing an authoritarian monarch.

Given the complexities of who would rule a single Palestinian state and the anticipated refusal of both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority to cede any ground, the easiest and best first step is the recognition of Israel by the 28 UN nation states who have thus far refused to do so.

Something tells me that President Macron knows exactly what he's doing, and I'm looking forward to the UN conference in June.
