During the Biden years, he usually kept them to Senate committee hearings and a few TV appearances. Now that he is up for re-election with gazillions being given to his opponent, and a White House determined to defeat him, he has decided to come out swinging, and very effectively. He hasn't suddenly gotten to be an intelligent firebrand. He just was keeping his powder dry, waiting for the moment when it was needed. It is now needed, and he has come out with both guns blazing. The Republicans are freaked out, because they believed their own underestimation of him.
