I do trust Aaron Parnas generally, but OTOH the science here is exceptionally simple, and doesn't require anyone getting arrested. There's ways to calculate the feet between the marks that don't involve getting into the empty pool with a tape measurer, and there should be existing pics from earlier times it was drained.

When I encounter assertions that I recognize as aligning with what I *prefer* to believe, I try to consider whether I *truly* have sufficient evidence of said assertion, or am I mainly choosing, based on my preference to believe?

I find that to be a valuable exercise/habit. To each their own
