1. Plastering these apps with ads has been the plan all along, only way the business model can come close to working

They're also trying to 'hook' people with free offerings, get them dependent and expectant, and eventually the plan is to degrade the free versions significantly (and they're already pretty shite compared to paid versions), including way sharper restrictions on free tokens, and plastering them with ads, to coax people into paying for subscriptions so they can get answers that are worth a damn, without being inundated by ads (especially constant ads to move to a paid tier). The only reason these companies can afford to do what they're doing now with all the free stuff is because there's investors willing to wait for returns. They're betting that the 'luring consumers with free product' period we're in now is going to be effective in eventually getting them to pay for the service.

IOW the level of 'freeness' we see for now is nothing like the 'end game'. They need many 10's of millions of everyday people to have at least $25-30 dollar a month subscriptions, and 10's of thousands of businesses to be dropping $1000's every month. In the US alone I mean. And these companies are going to be SELLING every freaking thing you do/say to AI to anyone that'll pay for it, because they will also HAVE to have that revenue stream as well.
