That is cool, though! I'm originally from Illinois and spent a lot of time downstate, but never made it to Vandalia.
Funny bit about that. Lincoln and a group of representatives actually pushed for the capitol relocation. Locals spent a ton of money on the new statehouse trying to get them to stay, but Lincoln and a group of similarly tall legislators called the Long Nine went "This place sucks!" and convinced the legislature to bounce. (Also, Lincoln was from Sangamon, so, let's be honest. He just really hated the commute).
