A confrontation inside a Naples, Florida, gourmet grocery store has led to a civil assault lawsuit against U.S. Representative Byron Donalds, a leading Republican candidate for Florida governor.

Kelly Mason, a member of the Collier County School Board, filed the lawsuit on Tuesday. The legal action comes roughly one month before the state’s August 18 Republican primary, where Donalds holds a significant lead. Donalds also has the endorsement of President Donald Trump.

The lawsuit, first reported by the Daily Mail, alleges that the incident took place in August 2022 inside the grocery store. According to the court filings, Donalds “deliberately confronted” Mason and “aggressively cornered her” while her husband and two young children were present. The suit claims Donalds “threatened that he could ‘crush’ or ‘finish’ her.”

Video footage from the interaction shows Donalds shouting at Mason as she walks away from him. In the recording, Donalds states, “Tell the truth…End it Kelly… Stop the lawsuits.”
