In reply to the discussion: I'm so tired of people associating low IQ with Trump [View all]mr715
(4,217 posts)When I first became a teacher, they drilled into us the idea of multiple intelligences and why we should disregard traditional IQ metrics, and I think that is generally the sentiment in the general education community.
When I conceptualize superior IQ, I usually envision someone that is able to manipulate novel information quickly and "move" things easily in their head.
But IQ isn't intelligence. It is a numerical signifier of intelligence. A Platonic shadow.
The reason why I think concern over calling Trump "low IQ" is silly is because it is as silly as someone, in an argument, saying "I'm high IQ!" Like, who cares?
You raise important points of ableism and how language matters, but Trump is so bad, so vile, so malignant, that I am unwilling to extend him much grace. How quickly he can find a pattern in a series of numbers, or how able he is to finish a drawing in his head isn't material.
I prefer the term stoopid, as it playfully captures Donald Trump's deficiencies
