General Discussion
In reply to the discussion: I'm so tired of people associating low IQ with Trump [View all]I base all my knowledge of IQ on my work within a system that tests children with intellectual disabilities to meet state and federal guidelines for services. Level of intelligence determines level of services available.
I also know that many variables impact a child's ability to function at their ultimate. A child that comes from a home environment that a highly enriching environment with the monetary and parental ability to provide optimum support can have better out comes. A child with the same IQ score that faces significant hurdles from a poor or impoverished background can have difficulties meeting the expected goals.
Children, irregardless of IQ number, learn at different rates. In the job I did IQ was only a number that helped get a child services. The total environment the child was growing up in, individual learning style, any coexiting diagnoses were some of the things that impacted level of functioning within the diagnosed IQ. Isn't our brain an interesting organ and it's ability to function is impacted by so many variables. Our understanding and knowledge of damage to the brain and the variables involved has grown significantly since I worked in the field. It seems there are changes everyday. Thanks for responding to my post. I enjoy learning new information and new ways of thinking.
I loved my job. I loved working in an environment that incorporated a number of different specialist. All of us working together to benefit a person and their family. It was always a learning environment. I imagine today it's even more so.
