83. The book was fascinating! But beware.....

Rodney Whitaker was a VERY opinionated man who had very little patience for the dim-witted. He takes some very unhidden nasty swipes at Americans, the French, the British, the CIA, big corporations and others. Only the Basques and the Japanese get off lightly. However, that having been said, it was also one of the most beautifully written, and most quotable books I have ever read.

When you are done, you will go back to it again and again, like using Youtube to go back to your favorite movie scenes. It’s a mercy that no one ever made a serious effort to make a film out of this story. I don’t see how it could have been presented visually. One guy I know, himself an author, said that the book “took the ethnic slur to a high art form.” I can’t say he was wrong, but that was only one small aspect. The characters are at the same time unbelievable, and yet presented so vividly, you feel as if you know them personally. I’m betting you’ll find the story a great read.
