We push issues that are popular with activists in the party, that are kind. Then we get tagged with them by the opposition.

I'd call this leading with your chin. And we're surprised.

Our most liberal policies became targets, and scared some in the middle and all of the right.

Don't we do enough focus groups? Doesn't anyone at DNC have eyes in the back of their head? Radar maybe?
