(3,748 posts)Ok; then lets say for non-gender identifiable nouns (in the English sense of the word): books, cars, tables desks, etc.; they all have a gender possessive identity. So a book is Mon livre whether its a woman talking or a man. And while I dont know who decided on these genders, sometimes I think it just depends on the way it sounds. Like for example, my car in French is Mon auto. The n is silent, so it just kind of flows off the tongue; mo-auto. If car was considered feminine it would be ma auto, which (to me) seems a bit awkward to pronounce.
Anyway, sorry again all you fluent French speakers for anything Ive gotten wrong. For a Canadian born person living 5 miles from the Quebec border, and with a VERY French surname at that my knowledge of the language is pretty limited!
