(10,789 posts)17. Private equity funds have been buying up the pet care industry
...for the last few years, especially after covid. With pet ownership rising and the associated costs being generally obligatory, it's another place they can squeeze out big profits. Pet insurance is another new thing and is proceeding along the same lines as human health care in the US - raise the costs and profit margins so high that people can't afford it and need to buy insurance, then all the prices and profits can be manipulated out of sight by a few big entrenched players in growing layers of complexity. I wouldn't mind having a pet myself, but I couldn't afford it.

I have several people I help with rides to the vet, etc. Their bills are getting higher also.
