Despite the politicization that tarnished the CDC, it had thousands of dedicated (and comparatively poorly paid) epidemiologists, virologists, chronic disease specialists, toxicologists, statisticians, and others working in tandem to improve the nation's health.

Destroyed. I cannot put into words how depressing this is.
