6. Yes it was horrifying to hear about Chinese people turning in their friends

and neighbors. An example is during the one child policy. Women who accidentally got pregnant
got ratted out by family and friends. Women were supposed to do monthly pregnancy tests
but sometimes skipped it. Then they got ratted out too.

Yes I never thought it would happen here.

I visited China once before the economic and politic reform, back in the 90's.
It was the most terrifying travel of my life. To see the abject poverty and fear on the faces
of the Chinese people every day. And to witness the brutality of the Chinese police.

They were nice to visitors from overseas for sure, we did not get the full brutal treatment.
But I did have my camera yanked out of my hands by a policeman. And got yanked around
because I sat on a bench near a fountain. The Chinese are not allowed to sit around in public
places or the airport, etc. To prevent citizens from mingling in large groups.
I am a petite female and they didn't need to grab me to get me to move.
They just liked shoving people around. I noticed they did not put their hands
on the larger American men.

I witnessed Chinese citizens minding their own business literally being dragged away
by the scruff of their necks with terrified looks on their faces but the red hat Chinese police.

Our emails were also read at the hotel, we were told about that.
We were also lectured about what topics were permitted to be talked about.
Any discussing of Tiananmen Square events would result in our Chinese minder being
jailed. This scared the crap out of us. And we loved our minder, she was a doll.
Probably a Chinese agent of some sort. But was great to us.

At the airport leaving China, I had a minor paperwork snafu and a large group
of Chinese police started walking towards me at the counter. I saw my life flash before
my eyes and started crying. Luckily everything was sorted out and the police moved on.

When our American group was on the airplane in Beijing and it took off to come back home
all the Americans on board spontaneously let our a huge cheer. We were that relieved that
we made it out alive and not thrown into a Chinese jail.

If you had told anyone of us that this style government would be installed in the USA
none of us would have believed you.
