He is a Freedom Caucus member and his letter opened with praise for Charlie Kirk. He called him a man of God and a national treasure. There was a photo and Biblical quotes. I found it to be so partisan as to be disgusting, so I replied to my Congressman. Stephen Miller says he and Trump will use law enforcement to dismantle the left after the Kirk shooting. So, if you don't hear from me after this, you can assume I have been dismantled.
Dear Congressman Cloud:
Thank you for your weekly newsletter, but I found the opening comments disturbing.
While I do not condone political violence, I viewed Charlie Kirk as a provocateur, a radio talk show host, and a rabble rouser for the right. He was a white supremacist who opposed LGBTQ rights, criticized the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and Martin Luther King, Jr. I can offer samples of his disturbing racist quotes upon request.
His organization supported a "Professor Watchlist, " which named university professors that he considered a danger. As a result, they were harassed with venomous emails, phone calls, and death threats. He also said some renowned black women lawyers and judges did not possess the mental acuity for the positions they had attained.
Jesus said, "Love thy Neighbor". He did not say love thy neighbor unless they are LGBTQ or of a different skin color. Mr. Kirk preached hate.
Matthew 25 (the parable of the sheep and the goats) warns us that if we do not welcome the stranger, we are condemned. "I was a stranger and you did not welcome me.... Whatever you do unto the least of these, my brothers, you do unto me." Charlie Kirk regularly disparaged immigrants. Mr. Kirk may have had faith, but James, Jesus' brother, warned us that "faith without works is dead."
Charlie Kirk's coffin was escorted by the Vice President on AirForce Two. Flags were ordered to half-mast and he will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Minnesota Democratic State Senator Melissa Hortman was shot dead in her home, along with her husband, and her dog by a man driven by right wing hate. The administration offered her no such honors or even condolences. It seems that from your side of aisle, left wing violence is worse than right wing violence. The data shows the opposite. For the 30 year period between 1990 and 2020, 84% of politically motivated homicides were committed by far-right extremists. (source available upon request)
Of course, we will pray for Mr. Kirks family. We will also pray that the Lord will forgive Mr. Kirk.
