15. It's a bizarre and non-Christian (and I'd include Mormon in that) thing to pray for. Bizarre to admit it in public, too

I mean, I can understand someone thinking "I hope that it wasn't someone like me" - which would be a guilty thought, thinking "I'm better than that, and the people who look like me, or grew up in the same places as me, are better than that" - a bit of prejudice, that many of us might be prone to at some time. But to turn that thought into a "prayer" - how can anyone Christian "pray" about a past event? - seems profoundly un-Christian. It trivialises the idea of prayer - either if you think prayer is literally talking to God, or if you think it is just a way of vocalising your hopes and fears, and with luck aligning them with your religious ideals.

And then to think this is something that, as a public figure, you should say to the world. Was he saying this as a form of public confession of his personal shortcomings?
