EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - With gun violence continuing to happen around the country, students at Eau Claire North High School took a stand. It was lunch time when a more than a couple dozen students walked to Mercury Avenue. They demand stricter gun laws as students near and far continue to get hurt.
“Our ultimate objective is to get through the legislators so they can see that we as students are tired of school shootings and want higher gun laws,” said August Hendrickson. He organized Friday afternoon’s walk out, with the help of some friends.
On Wednesday, two students were shot at Evergreen High School in Colorado. And, just two weeks prior on August 27, tragedy struck closer to home. Two kids were killed and many others were hurt in the Annunciation Catholic Church shooting in Minneapolis.
“So, when I heard about the shooting at the Catholic school in Minnesota I was devastated. Because, I may not believe the same things as them, no one deserves to die. They were children. No child deserves to die. Especially where they feel safest,” said Hendrickson. “It was important to get all out here because we’re the ones dealing with the school shootings. It’s not older people dealing with this, it’s mainly high school students. And, we want to make a change. We go to school to learn, not to die” ...
