I used to have this private discussion with kids who were being self-centered and demanding when I was a substitute.

Do you know why people don't really like kings?

Kings don't really have friends. Either people are afraid they will get hurt by the king, or they are hoping to get some of his riches. Kings don't play fair - they don't do any work, they make everyone else work and then keep all the stuff. They have way more stuff than they need, but don't share with people, and don't care if other people are hungry or cold.

Nobody really likes the king. They are happy when he goes away.

Don't act like a king. Nobody really likes a king.
