(50,994 posts)but he was just performing and had no realistic expectations he would become President. He was having fun with it and giving his brand a lot of free publicity. Then he found out that it didn't matter what he said or did. No matter how outrageous, he got a pass from his base and even many republican politicians.
Now he has virtually all republican politicians under his thumb and he is no longer testing the waters. He really believes he can do whatever he wants and there will be no consequences. I think it is like a game to him, like a kid finding out he has unlimited powers. I picture him waking up each day thinking about what he can do today to piss off a bunch of people with absolutely no repercussions.
When he once said he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue, I believe he was actually surprised at what he was getting away with. Not anymore; now he knows that there are no limits whatsoever.
