I think his broad support in red strongholds "normalized" him in those places. A percentage -- perhaps a significant percentage -- got on the bandwagon because they perceived that "everyone" supported him. The mix of self-inflicted damage (every 47 regime action appears be sabotage that is already being felt) and the visibility of hands off/no kings/good trouble protests everywhere, even in front of red rural city and county buildings, challenging the "everyone supports him" notion is chipping away at those who haven't actually invested much of their identity in being MAGA.

His approval among self-identified Republicans remains pretty strong, but I have my fingers crossed that we'll see that dropping too. As well-defended as they are against allowing any negative thoughts about 47 to gain a foothold, I think doubts have been brewing. Once you let one get a foothold -- like questions about why the reversal on Epstein -- others are able to gain purchase. Add that to hearing bits of 47 negativity from a small, but clearly present, number of people in the community -- people who used to be "on board" -- and that opens a door too.
