1. Agreed, that would be a "cure"

Once employers realize they are facing severe consequences for hiring undocumented workers, they will fire them immediately or risk jail. In fact, they would likely fire anyone who they suspected might be illegal and using fraudulent documents.

Doing so would result in workers (some here for decades) being unemployable. They will either decide to self deport or risk poverty, homelessness and hunger for their families.

That would also level the playing field for those employers who are following the rules by paying those here legally, decent wages, benefits, and paying unemployment, workman's comp & payroll taxes while trying to compete with those who aren't.
