Tuberville is going to run for Govenor of Alabama. [View all]

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) officially launched his campaign for governor Tuesday after weeks of speculation about whether he would seek his state’s highest political office.
“My record over the last four years in Washington has proven that I’m not afraid to say it like it is,” Tuberville said in a statement on his campaign website. “Like President Trump, I’ll continue to protect common sense and stand up for our shared conservative values in Montgomery.”

Tuberville is likely to succeed Alabama GOP Gov. Kay Ivey, who is term-limited. His exit from the Senate after one term also will set up an open Senate race in the deep red state.
The former Auburn college football coach has had a controversial tenure in the U.S. Senate. A close ally of Donald Trump, he has fiercely defended the president and often echoed his incendiary rhetoric.
In 2023, Tuberville infuriated Democrats and Republicans alike when he maintained a blockade for nearly a year on hundreds of noncontroversial military promotions over his opposition to a Biden administration policy that provided funds and support for troops and their dependents to travel for abortions after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down federal abortion rights.
