but by constantly barraging the red-hatted simpletons, they get them focused on hating various things besides the main one.

And to properly spell out everything here, the main one is class differences. The super wealthy wants the rest of the population to fight amongst themselves rather than recognizing that the super wealthy are the sole cause of everyone’s troubles.
