16. I think they are afraid (or know) that the media will mock

them if they try to defend Joe. They will be treated as part of a coverup, So they are trying to appear reasonable and open to the idea that Joe is partly to blame, in the hopes that this will blow over. It will not blow over until the corporate media finds something else to bash Dems with.
