Savak (the Shah’s secret police)? DAS (the secret police in Colombia)? FSB (Russian secret police)?
But I think we should keep using gestapo. Everyone knows that one. And it’s obviously getting a reaction.
What all secret police have in common is that they do not exist in democracies. DAS, Savak, and the Nazi Gestapo no longer exist. The FSB— well, they still exist. Because Russia is anything but a democracy.
ICE have very quickly mutated into a secret police. When this is over— and it will be over—ICE should be disbanded and defunded. The enthusiastic participants in these extrajudicial kidnappings should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
