141. addendum to this story- christine ran a 2nd time. the dnc stuffed tammy duckworth in our race.

christine was a darling in 04. a dean dozen, invited to dc, met all the bigs. jan schakowsky supported her.
she never stopped running. we knew it wd take 2 tries. she had coffees, did grip and grins. she had a small army of volunteers lined up. the 1 thing she didnt have was cash. so the dnc dumped her. dick durbin decided this was the place to launch tammy’s career.
and no one had the decency to call her up and say shit. except 1 guy. obama.

tammy won the primary by 100 sketchy votes. du’er kevin spidel ran that campaign, and will pitt came in at the end. that night was so grim, w the bigs in the back room arguing about challenging the results. never got to talk to him that night, and he bugged out next day. i teased for a long time that he owed me a beer.

tammy got walloped in the general by peter roscum, and we later got joe walsh. didnt get a dem til after redistricting, when jan gave up some territory, and there were demo changes in the district. i’ll go to my grave convinced we wd have won.
