Can our country ever elect a woman POTUS?

If so, what about a Whitmer/Murphy ticket?

If not, what about a Murphy/Whitmer ticket?

Chris Murphy is my Senator. He's great (and he didn't go to Yale!).

Gov. Whitmer is more than capable for the highest office in the land. But at this point, I despair that we can't seem to elect qualified women POTUS.

I don't see Trump even getting near to claiming he can run again. And even if the GOP ran him anyway, by that time he will have screwed this country so badly that only the craziest of the crazies will vote for him. That is, unless he dies from something brought on by his abysmal diet, dementia, or advanced STDs going untreated.

At any rate, that's my thought for today.!

Nearly all the problems we've faced in the last 25 years have been the direct result of them turning the government into a reality clown shit show.

And, at the same time - I am also hearing a lot of 'white male' as far as 28 ...
Now whether that is correct or not .. ? Or if even a proper reading of the room .. ? I don't profess ...

Obviously, we want to see a Democrat return to the Presidency---for the nation's sake, primarily!

Given the political circumstances, the electoral college's alignment works against Democrats. Realistically, it won't be changed anytime soon, as much as we would like to see that happen!

I just think that right now, looking at independent voters and Hispanics, it doesn't seem like those two important voting blocs appear ready to elect any woman President.

Any Democrat who is serious about winning in 2028 must perform better with those two groups and the overall voter turnout must be larger.

If anyone sees a way that is magically going to change by 2028, please share your insights with us.

…is because the down ballot races were inconsistent with the top ballot race. Also, polling, meh. So fungible. One thing the Dems did wrong was to not ask for recounts-afraid of looking like sore losers, like TSF.

I’ve given up on any hope of seeing it on my lifetime, and I’m just a few years older than you. I’m wondering if our daughter - or our granddaughters - will live to see it. And frankly, I’m doubtful. At least at the moment.

Barbara Buono tried against Chris Christie. While she was the better candidate, she didn't win. We now have Mikie Sherrill. Stellar work in Congress. I wish, but I don't expect.

Go to Kentucky. Amy McGrath tried to oust Mitch McConnell. Her credentials were impeccable. She didn't win.

Until you can get more than 50% of registered voters to vote, elections will be like Nielsen ratings.

The first woman to run as a major party candidate won the popular vote for President. Unfortunately, those votes were not optimally distributed in terms of the Electoral College.

1. The US loses a war with Mexico.
Don't discount this. U.S. cyber defense and military have been savaged by incompetent fools, ON PURPOSE.
Mexico could jump in "The Mouse That Roared" and take over. Scenarios:

2. Joe Biden blew the opportunity. I sure as hell would have done it.
He could have resigned a week early and made Kamala the 47th president, not for spite, but for precedent. (pun unintended)
I also would have done a lot of things with my unlimited power, but that's neither here nor there.
Let's just say that Alcatraz would be overflowing today. And a few other things ......

While seeing all the wonderful positive energy for Pete Buttigieg (who I think is amazing) which is flooding social media right now. I think there is definitely the racism/misogyny factor to overcome. Another thing though is that we have a habit of switching parties in the White House every 4 or 8 years. It is unusual in recent history that two Republicans get elected back to back, or two Democrats get elected back to back. It seems like those who are unhappy with their situation either stay home out of frustration or vote against whoever is in at the time, blaming them for their troubles or believing the other party can do better, and it swings the other way.

So I kind of wonder if part of what cost Hillary the election in 2016 and Kamala the election in 2024 is that voters were frustrated and brought that frustration to the ballot box and even if Joe had run again, or Gavin Newsom, or Tim Walz, he would have lost.

I think 2028 is going to be another change year, and that's why I'm not getting on this bus of "we have to let the Republicans pick our candidate. Only straight white Christian men from here one out." I want a candidate I am excited about. I am not prepared to eliminate 80% of the candidates right out of the gate just because that's who republican leaning voters might prefer. I think we need the person who inspires us, and who gets voters to turn out, and telling voters, you can only choose from 20% of the potential candidates is the way to do that. If our best candidate is a woman, let's run her. If it's a gay man, or a Jewish man, or a Hispanic man, let's get behind them.

men in this country really have a problem with women, and I'm not sure how to surmount that (besides getting rid of the electoral college)

The Democrats of this country blew it by not voting in Kamala Harris, A-because she's black...B- because she's a woman. We say the Republicans think like that...but unfortunately...there are thousands of Democrats who do so as well. Until that shift of opinion changes within the party, we will never have a woman for president. Women seem to have to campaign harder and longer to get any positive results than does a man...bloody unfair! This country is now fucked because Harris did not win.

Yes, I know that as long as the electoral college stands (and they did try to get rid of it years back), Hillary Clinton can win the popular vote, as Al Gore did, and yet we will send a Republican to the White House. But the figure of 80,000 or so voters across several states need not represent an insurmountable barrier.

What we do now matters, and I see every sign that women are going to be formidable candidates. But we have to make sure we build the electorate up and deal with the misinformation and apathy/defeatism that warp the turnout and voting patterns.
