The Democrats' Fork in the Road

To be the party of change in our current populist era, when the party’s brand is in wretched shape and views of Democratic governance are so negative, you have to actually change the party. That’s not easy. Most partisan Democrats would be perfectly happy to just restore the previous regime and forget the Trump nightmare ever happened. As far as they’re concerned, things were pretty great when they were in charge! We really haven’t moved much beyond the infamous yard sign from the 2024 campaign, “Harris Walz Obviously,” except now it’s, “The Democrats Obviously.”

It wasn’t so obvious to voters in 2024 and it’s not so obvious to voters now. The truth is that Democrats will have to work really hard to convince voters, especially working-class voters, that they embody change, not the Establishment, and are worthy of an enthusiastic vote. The last Democrat to successfully do this was Barack Obama; that was a while ago and the party is more in need of reinvention than ever.

Yet the sense of urgency in Democratic ranks is lacking. They don’t realize that they are at a fork in the road. They’re content to hoist the anti-Trump flag high and hope for the best. Continuing down that road will make them the party of restoration in a change era—and ensure that the political breakthrough they are seeking will continue to elude them.

Based on specific topics.

Do a town hall on Elon Musk, do a This is your life town hall. No sugar coating, according to Bill Gates, Musk is killing millions of children across the world.

One must ask the question, is Musk involved in eugenics, is Musk involved in de-population?

The working class voters who switched or stayed home do not want change. They want to satisfy their racism and sexism, whether or not they acknowledge to themselves that that racism and sexism exist within them.

I'm not saying the platform can't always be improved. But I'm saying if we run a middle-aged, white, protestant straight man and we don't change a letter of the platform, we will win.

By Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

They won with a convicted felon who was literally in the news every day when he was out of the White House. Brand recognition and name recognition were huge factors for him. He lied and gullible people believed his lies once again. They are now finding out. The majority of them regret their vote at least according to *all* of the polls I have seen recently.

Democrats don't need to come up with a 30-page plan they only have to say "We are not him" and "We are not them." They will win in 2026 with that message.

If we don't get out of our own world and start relating better with the rest of society, we are going to continue trading elections with the Republicans.

Trump won by lying. (Insert both sidesism:

All politicians lie
). Not like this they don't. This was calculated.

The whole campaign was based on turning over the keys to project 2025, pretending like he was not going to do that, lying about lowering prices on day one, lying about peace in the Middle East, lying about Ukraine. He told people they were all getting ice cream on day one and they believed it.

It's very hard to run against someone who's just flat out lying and has no intention of doing anything that they are saying. Even he cannot believe that people voted for him.

The way forward yes will involve getting those people to vote in their best interest going forward not just the next election but from now on. How do you convince people to vote for their own interest and not against them? I'm not entirely sure. So I really started thinking that the goal is the 50 state strategy that Howard Dean implemented that led to Obama's huge blowout victories. Barring that, we have to make sure that people who can't be trusted with the vote stay home.

But seriously our goal has to be to defeat them not convert them. Vote D or stay home. I am done being nice to these people and trying to win them over, and care about their feelings. Sorry if that sounds harsh. It's just where I am. FAFO!
