1. It only makes any sense at all

if Colombia and now Venezuela have become the new world distribution hub for Chinese crooks making fentanyl for the world market. I know Mexico has really tried to clean that shit up, stepping up interdiction in its ports even as the gang problem is a bit thornier.

Of course, the US could do the sensible thing and end the War on Drugs, a fucking failure and total waste of resources, especially a waste of so many lives ruined by unnecessary criminal records for things like possession and use.. Undercut the black market prices on shit adulterated with fentanyl (which is everything these days, even cocaine) and you take the profit aweay from the gangs, just like happened when Prohibition was ended, organized crime shrank considerably and the streets got a lot safer.

But that makes too much sense for conservatives, especially finger pointing religious conservatives. I guess they're not happy unless they can see the wages of sins they're not attracted to being paid here on earth, instead of in their afterlife.
