They had to move those assumed R voters from somewhere — they may well have weakened those districts, and they may well have not moved enough to make those five new districts safe. Heavy turnout could leave them in a world of hurt — I hope.

is kind of the be-all, and end-all ... And always has been.
That being said ... The people that draw these maps - are not exactly dummies. And the math, and modeling that goes into it has gotten pretty sophisticated, and exacting. (computers you know) That along with the sheer amount of data that is out there today ...

All of which is to say - generally a 10-11 point margin is considered a fairly comfortable 'cushion' - and you can bet they're able to peg their target (whatever number they're going for) to within a 1/2 a percentage point or less. Nothing is foolproof. But don't imagine there's a lot of 'by guess and by golly' guess work involved either.

Nonetheless .. a blue wave ...
And conversely, the tragedy of the 24 election remains - that we lost - because millions upon millions of people didn't show up to the polls.
