Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday said Russia had sustained 25,000 losses in Ukraine in October, suggesting that this toll was the highest since the start of the war. Speaking at a defense briefing in Kyiv, he said most of the Russian troops had been killed in drone attacks and that the number was based on video captured by the unarmed aerial vehicles. - 11/08/2025.

Is Putin really that good at keeping his people in the dark?

Meanwhile, Putin continues to send his soldiers into battle, unprepared for the new warfare methodology.
I'm looking forward to the day neither Putin nor Trump are around to mess the world up.

(59,386 posts)A friend of ours was chief Russia (Moscow-based, but went everywhere) news correspondent for a major German radio network. Hes back now, but his Russian girlfriend cant emigrate here, and he agrees that she probably shouldnt. She speaks only Russian and would be miserable living here.
So, they speak only by phone. The calls are monitored, so he is careful, but he says it is obvious that she knows only that which Putin wants her to.
We visited them 25 years ago in Moscow, and it was clear from the local news reporting in which way things were already headed. Moscow is a huge city, so he took us almost everywhere in his car. At 23° below zero in December, even a walk across the street required a debate about taking the car or not. So we heard a lot of local radio. My wife, unfortunately, understands no Russian, but she got to see and hear the German version of Soviet media because the socialist regime in East Berlin was on 24/7 when she spent a couple of years doing her social work training in West Berlin. It was very educational, seeing what the socialists were feeding their population, especially the childrens programs. Even they were nonstop indoctrination. I finally began to understand what my inlaws friend meant when he said someone from the West could never fully understand the brainwashing he went through as a member of the Hitler Youth. He was ten when the war ended, so National Socialism was the only reality he knew.

Just in case ....
I'll only volunteer if an article is of real interest to me, meaning that I don't want to plod through it to get the gist of it.
I was busy today with graphics fun, besides the home chores
Reason why I do it?
You can skim them.
You can search them, and
Easily go to what you are looking for.
You can save them for easy reference.
The sentence splitter even will create a doc file, though for DU, I put the text up at pastebin, so everyone can read it.
I've only had it complain on violent words (because they were in the article) but no copyright complaints.
So far.
