“There is serious discussion underway at several European NATO headquarters about the possibility of extending a no-fly zone into Ukraine. This wouldn’t be unprecedented. I was in Iraq in 1991 when NATO enforced a no-fly zone to prevent Saddam Hussein’s fighter jets from targeting the Kurdish population—a measure that proved highly effective in saving countless lives.
More recently, just last year, British and French jets successfully intercepted Iranian drones and missiles aimed at Israeli civilians. There is clear precedent for such action, and I believe an increasing number of experts are beginning to argue that NATO should seriously consider this step in Ukraine.” - 09/23/2025.
