As the cartoonist Doug Marlette once said, "Freedom of the press belongs to the person who owns one."

And by silencing the late night comedians, who of course criticize him with their jokes, it's one less venue where people can learn the truth - in a much more entertaining way than following the news. And this is one more way that TFG is imitating Putin. When Russia first invaded Ukraine there were mass demonstrations, so they were all jailed and that put an end to that.

And no one was allowed to mention the Ukraine war on their "news," even though thousands of Russians were forcibly recruited and so many have died - and early on there was a young woman in the newsroom who stood behind the newscaster with a sign about the war - she was not only jailed, but I remember learning that she somehow managed to escape the country.

And this is what TFG is aiming for, no one is allowed to criticize him, even with humor.

He felt free to bash Joe Biden, but he’s afraid of Trump. Doesn’t dare criticize the vulgar orange man who’s destroying our democracy.
