(3,522 posts)Treated as a suspect, detained and questioned for hours, as a US citizen returning to the country was fairly common in the late 60s and early 70s. I experienced that several times.
I was in and out of the country with dozens of volunteers in the 70's. Never heard of issues for citizens or saw any delays in the citizens lines in SFO, ATL, or LAX.
Certainly never heard of citizens getting threats if they left the country.

(3,522 posts)Crossing back into the states in Detroit and Port Huron from Canada via the bridges and tunnel could be a real nightmare in the late 60s and early 70s. It got easier once the Viet Nam war was over.

(1,114 posts)You didn't even need a passport for border crossings, just a driver's license until the 80's

(3,522 posts)So many people I know from Detroit experienced what I am describing back then. I never could have imagined that it would be questioned or become the basis for an argument.

(555 posts)There's a new sheriff in town and he's a crazy fascist so your experiences in the past have very little bearing on what's happening today.

(223 posts)I'm not a fan of Pak-man. He's a pretentious, little, prick. BUT I do agree with what he has to say just in general on his YouTube videos.
Still, I fell bad for anyone in his situation. Wish we could deport Miller, Musk, and the whole Dump crowd.
