'A one of a kind.' Pelosi CELEBRATED for long, successful career - The Weekend Primetime - MSNBC

After more than four decades in Congress, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi has announced she will not seek re-election. Pelosi's announcement closes the book on a storied career in which she became the first female Speaker of the House and one of Donald Trump's fiercest opponents where, under her leadership, the House impeached him twice.

Former Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) joins The Weekend: Primetime to look back on her friendship with Pelosi and the legacy she'll leave behind. - Aired on 11/08/2025.

Whether it’s “a giant among women” or “a giant among Democrats” or “a giant among remarkable politicians”, she’s the top.

It’ll be a long time before her legacy is matched, much less supplanted.

...where they have been few people who legitimately deserve to be described as "a giant". Long after history has resigned people like Newt Gingrich, Tom DeLay, Moses Johnson, Mitch McConnell, and John Roberts to its dust bin, Speaker Pelosi is going to be remembered. Not just for being the first woman Speaker, but for being one of the most effective politicians and political geniuses of her time. A tough-as-nails master strategist, she was the perfect foil for the worst president in history. The fact she could go eyeball-to-eyeball and toe-to-toe with a man who's made bullying and bluster part of his trademarks speaks to her resolve and absolute confidence in her ability. She had no problem wielding the iron fist in the velvet glove, and no reservations about using her power and persuasion to keep her caucus unified to fight Trump's stupidity.

I'm happy she's leaving on her own terms. I'm sad there are leaders who are remaining past their sell by dates who will never have the steel in their spines Speaker Pelosi demonstrated without apology or hesitance.

Thank you, Madame Speaker. Thank you.
