Darius Acuff has career night in Arkansas' 86-75 win over Tennessee
The No. 18-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks (11-3, 1-0, SEC) defeated the No. 19-ranked Tennessee Volunteers (10-4, 0-1, SEC) 86-75 from Bud Walton Arena in the SEC opener on Saturday afternoon, and freshman guard Darius Acuff Jr. was a big reason why with a career night to lead the Razorbacks to a win in the conference opener.
Acuff logged a career-high 29 points against the Volunteers on 9 of 16 shooting (56.3%) and 3 of 7 from three-point range (42.9%). Acuff also had eight of the Hogs final 18 points, including the dagger three-pointer with 2:09 left in the game to give Arkansas a 79-68 lead.
"I heard, 'Shot clock is going down,' so I knew I had to do something," Acuff said after the win. "He kind of backed up a little bit, so I felt like I had the shot. It was a lot of emotions, but still trying to stay in the game so we can win it. But it was a great feeling for sure."
"It's killing people that he's this good," Arkansas head coach John Calipari said following the win. "He and [freshman guard Meleek Thomas], we've got two of the best freshmen in the country. People aren't happy about it, and I'm hoping that we're signing another group that's going to be similar to these guys.
