No. 16 Duke women's basketball powers past No. 8 North Carolina 68-53, Richardson scores 23 on senior night

Last time the two Tobacco Road rivals played against each other, it was on North Carolina’s turf and ended in a heartbreaking overtime loss for the Blue Devils. But Duke played right at home Thursday night, ready for sweet revenge.

The Blue Devils left the Tar Heels in the dust in Cameron Indoor Stadium, winning 68-53. They were led by 23 from Reigan Richardson and 19 from freshman Toby Fournier.

"We had a tough week last week and you're trying to get the group back focused and get them to understand that it's part of the process," head coach Kara Lawson said. "You got to just keep working, keep getting better, and they did that. They did a good job of just staying locked in. So for us to bounce back on Sunday to get a win, and then bounce back tonight and get a win, it's great for us."

From the start of the game, everything seemed to be headed in Duke’s favor. The team had a 12-1 home record, seniors Vanessa de Jesus and Richardson were honored at the start of the game, North Carolina’s second and third leading scorers, Alyssa Utsby and Reniya Kelly, were out for the game and it was sophomore guard Oluchi Okananwa’s birthday.
