Related: About this forumAnyone having the page "jump" or refuse to scroll?
I suspect some of the ads are trying to grab window focus and interfering with scrolling by trying to remain onscreen.
This, and I'm starting to get annoying audio ads that play automatically.
Yes, I know "buy a membership to remove the ads". But I'm happy to see the ads. I just don't want them to actively mess with me by forcing the page focus on them or making sounds.
Specifically, the one doing both of these things is "Centerpoint Energy". It grabs the page back to put it at the top, then it says "my video will play in (howevermany) seconds, then the "video" is the same commercial, this time with sound that plays automatically. Usually, I can hide an ad, but this one won't let me.

And have been getting it randomly for about a week.
unblock
(55,549 posts)i.e., click "latest threads" if you're on the latest threads page, or click "my posts" if you're on the my posts page, etc.
that will force du to regenerate the page and a new ad.
i agree that just using the browser's refresh feature won't do the trick.

(7,916 posts)I was just hitting the browser refresh button.

(38,263 posts)But it does happen regularly on some other websites. Mainly sites that are loaded with 3rd party ads and pop-ups.
Another thing that stalls the page is if you have your browser set for "no cookies". If your browser isn't up-to-date it might be stalling for Flash or some other player.
It's not really a bug but it's still a good idea to keep your browser up-to-date.
Good luck

When that ad comes up I get a broken puzzle piece saying it blocked flash.
Refreshing the page doesn't help. I keep getting the same ad.

(38,263 posts)You have to go into the Chrome settings and enable Flash player.
I think it's called "manage exceptions" or something.
Chrome requires you to type the website URL if you do want the Flash player to work.
Otherwise it's turned off in the new version of Chrome.
You can get the step-by-step instructions if you instructions if you google it.

(7,911 posts)When I hit the "back" button on my browser, it turns out every URL in the history is the same as the URL of the page I'm on, so no only do the ads prevent me from scrolling down the page, but it breaks the back button as well.
I usually hit refresh a half dozen times until an ad which is not one of the offenders shows up. Any of the the ones that show a solid black rectangle with a little "ad choices" logo in the upper right, and often show some video ad, are bound to screw up your whole experience.

(7,916 posts)I think I've got it fixed now thanks to the replies.
Also, I was hitting the browser refresh when I needed to actually reload the page via a link on it.

(18,896 posts)I was on an Android phone with chrome and was in the DU login screen last night. I must have accidentally tapped an ad. I got a popup ad that I could not get rid of. The back button was locked, could not close browser, etc. I clicked ok on the popup and was redirected to a web page which I was able to close before it fully loaded. I am rarely on DU with the phone.
A reputable advertiser should not do such things.
