Voters question if slow mail affected Sioux Falls election

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) -If you ask South Dakotans about mail delivery times in the last year, you’ll likely get an earful. When slow mail potentially affects an election, that raises concerns to a whole new level.

When the need for a runoff election was determined, Minnehaha County Auditor Leah Anderson prepared for absentee ballot requests.

“The absentee window is very short. It was the seven-day window, which meant that we were able to mail out absentee ballots on the 16th of June,” said Anderson

Considering the reputation of mail delivery times and the Juneteenth holiday with no mail service, Anderson knew problems could arise.
